Because, according to the author, rationalism/reason is excluded from FbT / ITP, although they may still be shaped by natural selection. But still, any quantative science can be trusted, otherwise he would also be having trouble in arguing that certain interpretations of quantum theory support his claims.
And FbT is proven by the game theory approach, which is covered by reason. If have a copy, see pages 89-90.
All of this is my interpretation, it is never explicitly mentioned I believe.

I know it’s a couple of years old, but one question I would put to Prof Hoffman is: why is his theory not equally a product of fitness over truth? From what priviledged perspective does he diagnose our inability to ‘see truth’ and how does his analysis escape the same traps?
